Loudoun Cares re-established the Outstanding Volunteer Awards in 2017

Service of a Lifetime Volunteer

The Judy Hines Service of a Lifetime was established in 2019 to honor those who have given over ten years of service to Loudoun County. This award was named after Judy Hines a long standing volunteer in the Loudoun community and former Loudoun Cares and Friends of Loudoun Mental Health board member.

Gabriella Miller Youth Volunteer

The Gabriella Miller Youth Volunteer award was established in 2013 in memory of Gabriella Miller who passed earlier that year at only 10 years old from an inoperable brain tumor. Gabriella was named the 2012 OutstandingVolunteer of the Year under Volunteer Loudoun for her efforts in raising more than $275,000for the Make a Wish Foundation. Realizing how little awareness and funding there was for childhood cancer and particularly childhood brain cancer, Gabriella quickly became a global advocate for children with cancer and started the Smashing Walnuts Foundation. Her family now continues her mission of awareness. SmashingWalnuts is Gabriella’s legacy, founded to give kids like her a fighting chance.
