The Volunteer Engagement Training Program (VETP), formerly known as the Volunteer Management Training Series (VMTS) was originally developed by the Points of Light Volunteer Center National Network in 2006, it has since undergone updates in 2010, 2015 and once again in 2020. As an affiliate of the Points of Light Global Network, Loudoun Cares is thrilled to offer this amazing training to our nonprofits here in Loudoun County.

This nationally recognized training series will provide you with proven strategies, take-home ideas, and networking experience to improve your volunteer program. The training applies a volunteer-centered framework by highlighting the volunteer experience in engagement practices. The material infuses research-based training and management principles developed by the reDirect Foundation for creating Supportive Environments for Effectiveness (SEE) to maximize training effectiveness and promote thoughtful consideration of the volunteer experience.

The curriculum covers the following topics:

  • Establishing the Volunteer Framework
  • Planning for Volunteer Engagement
  • Volunteer Opportunities & Outreach
  • Volunteer Intake & Onboarding
  • Volunteer Supervision & Support
  • Volunteer Evaluation

Loudoun Cares welcomes back Facilitator Debra Bressler, Manager of Volunteer Engagement, Loudoun County Area Agency on Aging. Debra will be delivering this course alongside our own
Valerie Pisierra, Loudoun Cares Executive Director,  and Jenny Tomlinson, Loudoun Cares Operations & Program Director . Debra has delivered volunteer management courses since 2007 and continues to bring her experience and valuable lessons to the learning event. Valerie has been assisting with the training since 2017 and Jenny is joining us this year and brings a fresh new light to our training.

  • “I would highly recommend this training for others. Especially for those who are just starting at a position that works closely with volunteers, or even just for a person who is in charge of job creation and recruitment. I wasn’t expecting to get as much out of this course as I did.”

  • “The training did an excellent job of showing the potential for a well-developed, large-scale volunteer program, as well as giving the background knowledge and process for someone just starting a program.”
