Class of 2017 Year in Review

Claude Moore Community Builders Graduate

On Saturday, March 18, Loudoun Cares graduated its tenth class of Claude Moore Community Builders (CMCB).  The graduation ceremony and celebration took place at West Belmont Place at the National Conference Center.  It was a joyous occasion as we celebrated ten years of Builders serving the Loudoun County community. The CMCB program was established in 2007 with a grant from the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation, to provide youth in Loudoun County with a certified program that would encourage civic participation, self awareness, and self development. All Builders are required to give 100 hours during the program through individual placements at county nonprofits, group service days, and professional development seminars.

Our Builders, ranging from 10th to 12th grade, representing 16 different county high schools, gathered with family and friends to look back on a program year dedicated to volunteering, leadership, and friendships.  Chair Phyllis J. Randall, Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, addressed the Builders, emphasizing they are in an unprecedented age of social media and to always be kind even when people may  misinterpret that kindness for weakness.  She emphasized kindness isn’t weakness and one can be both kind and strong. Chair Randall also encouraged the group to follow their passion in life.

Sue Khalil, Loudoun Cares Executive Director, thanked the Builders for an outstanding program year , for being committed community servants, for reaching beyond their comfort zones, for always going the extra mile, and for their outstanding work ethic and  good will they displayed at every event in which they participated.   As a group, the Builders joined forces with over 32 nonprofits and volunteered a total of 4,784 hours this program year,  bringing their overall total to 27,284 hours since the program began in 2007.   Their dedication has earned them all the President’s Volunteer Service Award.

Loudoun Cares is very proud of the Claude Moore Community Builders and we are on the lookout for our Class of 2018! Applications are now open and will close at 5:00 pm on April 30, 2017. Click here to learn more about the CMCB program.
