Requirements & Expectations of the Program

In order to complete the Claude Moore Community Builder's Program you will need to devote a significant amount of time volunteering at a local nonprofit and at other community service events. Please review the requirements and consider your schedule and your athletic and academic commitments.

There are a limited number of slots available for this program. Submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance.

While in the program you will participate in the following activities:

Interning at a local nonprofit
– Based on what causes you are interested in, what you want to study in college or what careers interest you we will attempt to place you with a local nonprofit that needs someone with your skills or that is involved with a cause you feel strongly about. You will work with the staff at the nonprofit to develop a schedule for completing your work but you are required to complete a minimum of 40 hours service within six months.

Community Service at Special Events
– You and other teens participating in the program will volunteer at community events for shifts no less than 5 hours long (for a minimum of 30service hours). Examples of events you may be asked to attend are Keep Loudoun Beautiful, Make a Difference Day and Habitat for Humanity House Building Days.

Curriculum Days – There are 3 mandatory curriculum days where you and the other teen participants will hear from guest lecturers and discuss issues related to volunteerism and nonprofits. Curriculum days are generally held on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Program Orientation – Once accepted you must attend the program orientation where you will learn about your nonprofit assignment, learn more about the program expectations and meet the other teenagers selected for the program.
