Why an Information & Referral telephone line?
As 12,000 residents
migrate to Loudoun each year, the county scrambles to provide homes, schools and roads to accommodate them.
But what about the elderly woman who can’t afford
prescriptions; the low income person in need of food and utility assistance; the Spanish-speaking person who struggles to
translate the want ads?
Until recently, Loudoun County did not have a single
telephone number to which local residents could call for the most up-to-date information about local health and human services
programs. Loudoun Cares initiated a part-time information and referral helpline in the summer of 2004. As a result, we are
already linking residents with the programs and services that can best help them. However, much work remains if we are to
properly serve the community.
